About ISL

Head's Message

Welcome to the website of the International School of Lusaka. I hope the site will provide you with the information you need about ISL and its educational programmes.HOS Photo ISL has developed into a large and thriving school over the last 50 years and as we move into our next half century we are looking forward to continuing our journey, always striving to improve but retaining the atmosphere of a happy productive school community where all are welcome. ISL occupies a prime site, close to the centre of Lusaka, with extensive buildings and grounds to meet the needs of around 700 students. ISL is an International Baccalaureate World School offering the IB Primary Years Programme and IB Diploma Programme, along with IGCSE in Years 10-11 (Grades 9-10). The school is accredited by both the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and the Council of International Schools.

Our school motto is Striving for Excellence. Our aim is to educate each child holistically to reach their full potential; as our mission says, we are committed to the development of students who are open-minded, balanced, environmentally conscious and principled citizens of the world who will strive for excellence and cherish life-long learning. We believe that excellence will only be achieved by students who are learning in a happy and secure yet challenging environment.

A major challenge for all schools is to ensure students learn the skills they will need to live and work in a world that is increasingly global and ever more technologically advanced. To do this we must move from content driven to skills based learning and help students to become self-engaged, life-long learners. As we start our second 50 years, the challenge will be to embrace the opportunities that change offers, to provide students with the tools they need to understand and function effectively in the 21st Century, yet not to lose sight of our values and the individual care of students that makes ISL such a happy, thriving community.

I hope that you will want to discover more about the International School of Lusaka. The Primary and Secondary Principals and I look forward to meeting you should you come to visit us.
